5 Reasons Why Judging Others is Unhealthy
Observing and evaluating people is one thing, judging and being overly critical is another. You'd need quite a bit of empathy and selflessness to be able to understand people without judging them. Sadly, many people can’t manage that yet are quick to judge.
The number one reason why judging other people is so wrong is that, we never know what can be going on in someone’s life. A person might be behaving a certain way because they are hurt poor just lost a loved one or depressed.
Apart from the fact that we know very little about other people, judging them completely stops us from opening our minds to what they have to say. It makes us poor listeners and less perceptive of an issue. Many times people who are quick to holding, forming, and casting those judgements are unfair and off track.
Thirdly, judging other people stops us from learning from them. Because we already have a misconception of the individual, it becomes a challenge for us to separate our biases and learn when they have something intelligent to teach us.
Additionally, judging people makes us self-absorbed. If we use a tough criteria to judge others, how would we look if that person knew and judged our faults and poor behaviours? Judgements makes you feel superior and massages your ego in an unhealthy manner.
Conclusively, what you like or hate in people is a very strong reflection of what you like or hate about yourself. Interestingly, it often goes wrong since we often create a different image of a person on the basis of our assumptions and personal point of views whereas that person possess totally different personality.
While judging people appears inherent in our human nature, it is important that before you do, you ask yourself if you would like it if you were on that table.
